Greggs Superfan Decorates Car With Company Livery

If you see a vehicle carrying the livery of a company, you will have every reason to think it belongs to that firm and is busy taking its goods from A to B, or is involved in some promotional work.

However, that is not the case for one ‘superfan’ who loves the bakery chain Greggs. He has taken it upon himself to decorate his car in the colours and logo of the firm and add his own moniker for extra effect.

As the Chronicle Live reports, Joe James, a student from Leicester, has applied his own vehicle branding to his blue Suzuki Wagon R. As well as the Greggs name and logo with its familiar yellow window shape, he has added the legend ‘The Sausage Roller’ to the side of his vehicle.

It will come as no surprise to learn that 18-year-old Joe has always been a huge fan of Greggs, but this is clearly taking that dedication to a new level. Then again, as they say in marketing circles, sometimes the most effective marketing is that done by peer-to-peer recommendations. If ever Joe’s friends needed a prompt to visit their local Gregg’s, they now have it.

These already include another big fan of the bakery, Dylan Gamble, who goes by the nickname “Captain Greggs”. The pair spent a weekend decorating Joe’s car.

The pair started on the project after what started as a joke gained momentum and was soon baked up into a fully-cooked scheme.

Joe explained: “We were walking through Halfords and he joked that you could organise L plates to look like a Greggs logo and it kind of spiralled from there with every step working almost too perfectly!”

Some companies might have taken a dim view of someone else using their livery, but not Greggs. The firm’s Twitter account said: “Love it Joe. Although, no sudden hand bake turns please."

"It's so amazing to get recognition from this brand we unironically love for such a stupid idea me and my friend had," said Joe in response to the way Greggs had reacted. He added that there had been some “bad reactions” to the makeover, but brushed this off as par for the course when doing something a bit different.

“For the most part, it's been a lot of smiles and laughs which was really the goal," he concluded.

Those who give their car a major makeover can often attract criticism and may sometimes need a thick skin. For instance, The Sun recently reported on the case of a Tik-Toker named Lucy, whose love for all things pink has even extended to the way she decorates her car, both inside and out.

Not everyone was impressed with what she had done and one respondent branded the makeover “tacky”. In a video response, Lucy said: “That’s when I know I’ve done the job right… I just love tacky things. I love it looking tacky.”

Others took a much more positive view and said it had inspired them to adapt their own cars in similar ways.
